I’m doing NaNoWriMo this month (but with a twist)!
I’m pretty excited because this is the first time I’ve decided to do NaNoWriMo. It has a twist though. I will do it my way. I would rather focus on my writing as my primary interest this month and write as much as I possibly can, but I don’t have the goal of writing my entire novel in just a month. I know it’s not how the original challenge works, but I’ve decided to just make it healthier for me by being more realistic. Because one big part of me really wants to do NaNoWriMo even though I know I easily get stressed…
Sometimes we need to adjust things for our own mental health. It doesn’t mean I won’t do it altogether, it just means I will adjust it to fit my own head.
I would encourage everyone out there to do the same. It’s not black and white! You can do NaNoWriMo but set your own goals instead of following the original ones. It’s not an all-or-nothing thing, like either you win or you ”fail”. It can be neither.
My goals are:
- Focusing on writing and writing something every day in November.
- Finish a big portion of the drafts of my book — if not all the drafts so maybe half of the book.
- Worldbuild at least the basics of the world my book takes place in.
